Russell Riviere joined The Watkins Firm's Transactional Department as an associate attorney because it gave him the best opportunity to serve as a zealous advocate for his clients' business and personal interests.
Born on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia, but raised in Miami, Florida, Mr. Riviere earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Florida in 1996. Mr. Riviere followed in the footsteps of his father and a sister and became a lawyer after receiving his Juris Doctorate from the Georgetown University Law Center in 1999. That year, Mr. Riviere joined his brother in San Diego, California, where Mr. Riviere's practice has since flourished.
Mr. Riviere's transactional practice involves all aspects of his clients' businesses, including managing mergers and acquisitions, drafting and negotiating stock purchase agreements, asset purchase agreements, non-competition and non-solicitation agreements, promissory notes and security agreements. Mr. Riviere has drafted a wide variety of employment and independent contractor agreements, one of which is a consumer consulting agreement including one of the first anticipated commercial flights to space. Mr. Riviere also practices in the area of trusts and estates to ensure that his clients' assets, the most important of which are their families, are properly protected.
In addition to his transactional experience, Mr. Riviere has extensive experience litigating cases in employment, business and securities law, including representing employees in discrimination, sexual harassment and wrongful termination cases; representing shareholders of closely held corporations in fraud, misrepresentation and breach of fiduciary duty cases and representing shareholders of public corporations in complex class action securities fraud litigation in federal courts throughout the United States.
